Dear First Gen,

Welcome to Summer!

It has been a long winter on the #EastCoast and finally the warm weather has arrived. During that time, you put in long hours in the classroom and now you desire to be outdoors. You deserve it! But, wait, the summer months should be another opportunity to RISE!

When I was in school, non-first gens participated in one of the three options to have a #LitSummer:
  1. An Educational Program;
  2. An Abroad Program;
  3. An Internship Program; or
BONUS: An Employment Opportunity.

The video below goes into detail on how each one could work in your favor to bring you closer to rising sooner and quicker. Click play!

My summer has always been boring, and at first, I was okay with it. I can be lazy all day and I have nothing to worry about, like school works and requirements. When it is time to go back to school, almost all of my friends have something to share about how they spent their summer and I have none. That is when I realized that summer is a great opportunity to enhance and learn something new. I will definitely attend an educational program next summer.

Your summer can be both relaxing and engaging. It is a good idea to use your summers as an opportunity to delve into what interests you and could advance you. Enjoy the educational opportunity!
